FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1 : What is the process for a psychological evaluation for immigration?

The process usually consists of two in person assessment sessions of up to two hours each. These sessions are often scheduled a week apart. Then the report is written and a draft is sent to the attorney within 10 business days. A final signed report on letterhead will then be sent to the attorney.

2 : What happens in assessments sessions?

Sessions are conducted in a confidential office setting. We will review the client’s life history and immigration story, and talk in depth about what they have experienced and how it has affected them. Formal measures for anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder are used either in written or verbal format as needed. The client determines the pace of the sessions, and breaks are taken if needed.

3 : Do I need to speak English or bring an interpreter?

Assessment sessions can be conducted in English or Spanish. The evaluation report is written in English. Any other languages will require additional fees for professional interpretation services.

4 : How much does it cost?

The flat rate cost that includes two or more assessment sessions, communication with attorneys as needed, and a final written report costs $750. Half is due at the first session, and half either at the second session or prior to submission of the report. Payments can be made by cash or check. These evaluations are not covered by health insurance.

5 : What if I’m not located in West Michigan?

I am licensed to provide services to clients who are physically located anywhere in the state of Michigan or in Florida. Evaluations can be conducted virtually when needed.

6 : Is this the same as therapy?

No, although many clients do find the process to be therapeutic. The purpose of these services is to create the best written evaluation possible, and does include psycho-education for clients on any diagnoses they receive. If a client desires further treatment I can make appropriate referrals.
